Steve Cohen loving ‘rocking’ Citi Field after his past Mets attendance disappointment

Steve Cohen has loved what he’s seen at Citifield so far. It’s not just the teams on the field.

After completing 2024 with the NLCS and getting Juan Soto, who won a 15-year, $765 million contract in the five-team bidding war, Mets is increasingly involved in the World Series conversation, offering fans something they believe right away.

It’s also worth buying.

Last season, Cohen was disappointed by the lack of attendance Citifield saw during the pennant race. Now he loves the atmosphere and wants to continue doing it.

“Citifield was shaking last night. There are a lot of people and (Francisco) Lindor walking. Come out and join in for fun!” The owner posted X Saturday morning after the Mets’ 5-4 victory over the Cardinals.

Mets was 13-7 and ranked number one in the NL East.

The Mets currently rank eighth in average at-home attendance this season (35,795). Last season, they saw them transitioned from 0-5 to the playoffs and they sat in 18th place with an average of 28,757 attendees.

It could also be skewed to the start and start the Mets saw at the beginning of the season, which averaged 24,000 North attendance by the end of May.

“It really bothered me. I was in the 18th place that we attended while we were in the middle of the pennant race,” Cohen said during spring training. “I said this before, the series with the Nationals just before the final Philadelphia series. I think there were 18,000 fans in the stadium during a great pennant race.”

Cohen was referring to the Monday September 16th match with 21,694 attendees. Mets radio announcer Howie Rose was also dumped into numbers.

“This is something I haven’t gotten, Sheer Stadium was getting a big night crowd in September when the Mets were in the pennant race. With X post at that time.

Since the Mets’ busy offseason, the franchise has seen a “decent, substantial percentage increase” in ticket sales. This is the wall Cohen wants to break for his team.

“There’s always been skepticism with the Mets and we believe we’ll be a sustainable winner in the playoffs,” Cohen said this spring. “I think Mets fans had this negative perception about the Mets and their fandom. One of my goals is to break that negativity and make us believe we will be a sustainable winner for the year and year.”
