Representative Dan Goldman (D-NY) said Thursday on CNN’s “Anderson Cooper 360” that if lawmakers allow President Donald Trump to rule “by threat,” it would kill our democracy.
Goldman said, “The fact that Donald Trump is coming out of threat and Fiat’s control, and has truly terrifying effects on Congressional members and almost Republicans. Mitt Romney had an entire chapter in his book about what his Republican colleagues told him he changed the vote because he was afraid of the safety of his family.”
He continued, “And now you have Donald Trump chasing the cult behind him and threatening people, but they attacked them if they crossed him, and he released the militia on January 6th and forgiven him. We want to vote in a certain way, but we fear personal safety and the personal safety of our families, so we decided to vote in a different way that we no longer represent our members.”
Goldman said, “We represent something else, something else, something like bullies that threaten us. That’s how Vladimir Putin operates. That’s how Viktor Orban operates. That’s how dictators operate. That’s how our democracy dies. A democratic body.”
