How do you say “proofreading” in Italian?
The intentional gesture to honor the 225 people killed when the roof of a Dominican Republic nightclub collapsed could have backfired Mayor Eric Adams.
At a press conference on Thursday, Kyzaner appeared wearing a white T-shirt that was at least two sizes too small, decorated with an American flag, with a phrase Adams claiming to be Spanish for “the trust of God.”
It was actually Italian.
Instead of Spanish “en dios confiomos,” the mayor’s shirt was read as “at Dio Confidiamo.”
Adams pointed out that this is his way of recognizing the tragic loss of life at the Jet Set Nightclub in Santo Domingo on April 6th.
Among the confirmed deaths are several former athletes, including former World Series winner Octavio Dotel and former MLB player Tony Blanco, and current father of the Pittsburgh Pirates.
“King of the Clown” read one Redditor’s reaction to the presser’s video footage. “Did he spray Seltzer water on the reporter’s face?[s]? ”
Another suggested “the atmosphere that King Bozo said “no.” It penetrated Adams’ office.
“There’s something very consistent with Eric Adams, who fks anything he’s trying to do, but what he’s trying to do is very stupid,” another user commented.
An Adams spokesman did not respond to requests for a comment on Saturday.
