Comedian Bill Maher responded to backlash regarding his March visit to the White House, which was arranged by Kid Rock, stating that he communicated a harsh reality to President Trump during their face-to-face conversation.
During Friday’s show of HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher,” he drew a parallel between his personal meeting with the president and Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s recent visit to the oval office.
“She was in an oval office, in the same spot she occupied a few weeks back. This is what she did,” Maher remarked, unveiling a picture of Whitmer shielding herself with a binder from the media.
“There are various approaches to handle an oval office. This was not my choice. If you don’t want to engage with people, you have no authority,” he noted.
Maher emphasized his need to express his worries and encouraged others to voice theirs instead of silently enduring Trump’s four years.
“People seem to highlight my visit. I didn’t yield to him,” Maher explained.
“Sure, I voiced my thoughts. People don’t care. They focus on sensational headlines instead of what I really did,” he reiterated.
The HBO Show host confronted Trump with the fact that he lost to former President Biden in the 2020 election, critiquing the leader’s new policies as detrimental.
“I went there and directly told him, you frighten people! Why would you want to instill fear in your fellow citizens? I told him, ‘You ran in three elections, you lost the middle,'” Maher conveyed to viewers.
He further mentioned that dialogue is crucial for forming perspectives with Republicans.
“I appreciate having the opportunity to do that. I was seated at the table. Again, what more is there,” Maher stated.
“You have no power, so this notion means he’ll be around for another four years. It’s quite a stretch to hold your breath.”
Whitmer expressed regret over her attempt to conceal her face, admitting she got caught in the moment.
“At that point, when someone asked what was on my mind, I thought, ‘I don’t want a photo of me.’ Whitmer remarked at an event on Monday.
“I wish I hadn’t used the folder to cover my face, anything would have been better,” she continued. “I authored a book about learning to find humor in myself, so I manage it well. We all have our moments.”
