Jamie Raskin’s message to foreign countries that work with Trump: Beware when Democrats ‘come back to power’

Rep. Jamie Ruskin (D-MD) said that because of El Salvador’s actions in detention of illegal foreigner Kilmer Abrego Garcia, Congress should consider eliminating federal aid to the country and warn him that Democrats remember the country that helped the Trump administration when they returned to power.

Between him Interview On “Pod Save America,” Raskin said, “We should talk about cutting back on aid to El Salvador right now.” He added that he does not believe that El Salvador President Naive Buquere claims that Abrego Garcia cannot be returned to the United States.

“It’s an attack on our constitution and our people.”

“He is our legal agent in this questionable arrangement they created,” Ruskin said, referring to Bukere. “Of course he has the power to return him, so he and Trump act like a few dictators who enjoy the man’s life and his family, and they want to do it here and there.”

Ruskin said Democrats need to do a better job of connecting with democratic movements and governments around the world.

“If we return to power, and we will not be kind to see those who promoted, those who use the words of that day that promoted authoritarianism in our country. It is an attack on our constitution and our people,” he continued.

Democrats argued that the Trump administration violated the Supreme Court’s recent ruling on the issue, where they said the US must “promote” Garcia’s return. The same ruling also stated, “However, the scope of the term “impact” in a district court order is unknown and could exceed the authority of the district court,” and that lower courts “should clarify its direction with respect and respect for the administrative department in conduct of foreign affairs.”

As of Monday, four House Democrats were in El Salvador. Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD.) continues to advocate for the release of Abrego Garcia after doing the same last week. Robert Garcia (California), Maxwell Frost (Fla.), Jassamine Ansari (Arizona) and Maxine Dexter (Oregon) say they’re there to continue the conversation and don’t let Abrego Garcia say they’re a member of the MS-13 gang.
