On Tuesday, when he appeared on Fox News channel’s Jesse Watters Primetime, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert Kennedy Jr. commented on the decline in testosterone levels in young American men.
Watters: HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., is here.
OK, Secretary, I don’t know if you can see, but I have a small snack food aisle set up next to me here on set. We burn hot cheats, there’s skittles, there’s Trix, Froot loops. There’s the whole thing.
Now, Gatfeld claimed “5” today. He ate a flute loop for breakfast every day when I was growing up and I did well. Now I’d argue, he’s become like a maniac. He is overactive and confused. But does he have a point? What do these food dyes in particular actually do to children?
Kennedy: Well, looking at the ingredients for the flute fruit loop 20 years ago, it was very different from today. And today we use chemicals in Froot loops, which are banned in almost every country in the world.
So when you buy Froot loops today in Canada, they are made with plant dyes. Buy it here in the US and it is made from petroleum synthesis.
And like I said in that clip, no one wants to eat oil. So when we went to meet with the food company, I told my staff, if they want to eat oil, they have to put it in their own food at home. They should not give it to Americans without consent or knowledge.
And today we announced that we were going to take it out of the food. Therefore, nine dyes, Jesse, two of them will be banned immediately. It comes in orange B and red dye 2. Accelerate the removal of red dye 3. We want to get them out of all our food and that’s just the beginning.
So, one of the problems is that the science of these additives has been systematically suppressed for 30 years as the industry operates this agency. And we will remove all of these conflicts. We’ve taken most of them off, and we’re trying to do real science, and we’re trying to do science exactly on the issues that Americans care about.
The food our kids eat today is not really food. It is a food-like substance, some of which are made in petroleum refineries, and we need to give our children real food again.
We carry the burden of the most chronic diseases in any country in the world. When my uncle was president, 3% of Americans suffered from chronic illness. Today, it’s 60%. 74% of our children are not eligible for military service.
We have just a spiral birth rate. Today’s teenagers, American teenagers, have less testosterone than 68-year-old men. The sperm count has decreased by 50%. We are also in puberty at the age of six.
Watters: Wait, wait. Are American teenagers less testosterone than 68-year-old men?
Kennedy: That’s right. Testosterone levels have been reduced by 50% from historic levels. And you know, and it’s a problem, and it’s an existential problem, but it’s only one. That is, only when there is obesity that is off the chart.
Again, when my uncle was president, there were about 11% of obese children. Today, 74% of Americans are obese or overweight. And, as you know, it’s 3% in Japan, so you know. That’s because they pay attention to what they feed their children at school.
Watters: Yes, the Japanese are extremely skinny, except for sumo wrestlers. Those people aren’t that thin.
