First Christian Medical School in 40 Years Opens in Nashville

A new Christian Medical School was opened in Nashville, Tennessee, marking the first such school to be opened in the Southern Province in more than 40 years.

Peter Who, who previously taught at Mercer University School of Medicine before joining the faculty at Belmont School of Medicine, said he dreamed of teaching from a Christian perspective.

“I looked around and said, ‘Yeah, this will work. They’re putting up the pieces,” said Howe, now a professor of biochemistry at the school.

Another Christian school, Los Angeles-based Loma Linda University School of Medicine, has taught similarly. “All-person care” model That Belmont is teaching now.

Furthermore, there is an increasing number of national healthcare organizations recommending the national model for US physicians, particularly in primary care. Later this year, another new secular medical school will focus on care for the whole person.
