Tesla urges Canadian customers to buy pre-tariff priced inventory ‘while supplies last’

Elon Musk’s Tesla is urging Canadian customers to buy cars at pre-tension rates “while supplies last” as they move to raise prices in response to President Trump’s trade war.

The website of the Canadian electric vehicle giant displayed a banner message on Monday. This said, “Explore pre-tension stocks while supply continues.” The ad first appeared on Tesla customers over the weekend.

President Trump’s 25% tariffs on imported cars and car parts remain in effect even after a 90-day suspension on most tariffs earlier this month. Canada retaliated with a 25% tariff on US automobile imports.

A Tesla sales representative at a Toronto area dealer said pre-duty prices apply to all models of vehicles already imported to Canada before the tariff hikes came into effect.

Price hikes are coming at a tough time for Tesla, in the midst of a slump in sales.

Tesla vehicle delivery – a close proxy for sale – plummeted 13% in the first quarter.

The company’s net profits sank by a whopping 71% over the same three months.

Tesla dealers have been facing waves of protests and arson since the beginning of the year.

Tesla has been somewhat insulated from the effects of Trump’s tariffs. Because we make all of the vehicles sold in the US at manufacturing plants in the US.

However, the company still relies on certain parts imported from overseas countries, including China.

Earlier this month, Reuters reported that Tesla would suspend shipping of necessary parts from China for future cybercabs and semi-electric trucks due to tariffs.
