Lucy Olsen It could be the latest second pick to find yourself on the first day WNBA List. Olsen spent the first three years of his college career. Villanova Before transferring to Iowa for his senior season, he was selected by the Washington mystic for his 23rd overall pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft.
And at training camp earlier this week, Mystics head coach Sidney Johnson said he was impressed by Olsen's play. With the monumental sports network Tyler Byram.
“Lucy, that midrange, I don't know a guy,” Johnson said. “Somehow she can get to that.”
Which young player stands out at Mystics Training Camp?
Sidney Johnson's first response was Lucy Olsen.

“She won't blow you away with her athletic ability, but once she gets to that midrange, no matter what's going on, she'll get to it.”
Olsen averaged 17.9 points per game for Iowa, shooting 43.6% and 3-36% from the field. The 5'10 Pennsylvania native won the all-big 10 honors for the first team. Now she is one of the few players competing for the final roster in Washington.
Mystics training camp roster currently includes 17 players
Of those, 12 players can make the final roster, but WNBA teams often carry only 11 people for reasons that save money. This means that six players could be cut.
Currently, three players have fully guaranteed contracts.
- Shakira Austin (protected rookie contract)
- Brittney Sykes (Secure Veteran Contract)
- Stef Dolson (Secure Veteran Contract)
Furthermore, it appears that there is a very high chance that seven players will create a final roster.
- Sug Sutton (replyer to the training camp contract)
- Emily Engsluter (replyer to a training camp contract)
- Sonia Citron was drafted third overall in 2025.
- Jade Melbourne (Replyer for Unprotected Transactions)
-
Aaliyah Edwards was drafted sixth overall in 2024
- Kiki Iliafen was drafted fourth overall in 2025
- Sika Kone (Replyer for Unprotected Transactions)
Austin, Sutton, Sykes, Melbourne, Edwards and Dolson were all returned, while Iliafen and Citron were the Mystics' first round picks. It's unlikely that Mystics will cut back on one of the top draft choices he contributed last season or returning players.
Plus, Georgia Amoor appears to be part of the team's future, but will miss this season due to injuries. Once Amoore is completed this year, the mystics will need additional security guards. Olsen can be filled as a playmaker and ball handler.
Along with Olsen, five players seem to be fighting a mysterious roster spot.
Those players are:
- Jojo Lacy, a Rutgers Outstanding ahead
- Ashtemple Prichel was the third pick chosen by the Connecticut Sun in 2023.
- Khadijiah Cave, 30-year-old forward who has long been competing for a spot on the WNBA roster
- Zaay Green 6'2 guard from Alabama, who was selected as the No. 32 overall in 2025
- Morgan Jones, Louisville's undrafted security guard
