A Florida man accused of locking a woman into a container after beating her and sexually abused her, has been charged with murdering the victim's stepmother. WMBB-TV reported.
David Earl Gipson, 40, faced a judge Thursday morning in connection with six felony charges, the station said:
- Murder (no bonds)
- Batteries worsening for people over 65 (no bonds)
- Sexual assault with weapons or forces (no bonds)
- Aggravated battery with deadly weapons ($250,000 bond)
- Abuse of the dead human body ($250,000 bond)
- Adult Invitation/False Incarceration ($250,000 bond)
“He went down into the mud hole and tried to cover himself with the mud. He was just trying to throw away the scent. But it didn't work and we got him.”
Investigators with the Washington County Sheriff's Office told WMBB they planned a savage physical attack on Monday in Vernon, about 30 minutes north of Panama City Beach in the Florida Panhandle.
Investigators told the station that Gipson had entered the home of 74-year-old Letty Cooper Collins, and his daughter-in-law demanded his daughter-in-law, demanding repayment of the debt his family claimed owed him.
“[Gipson] “Your husband and stepbrothers are burglars and owes me money, so I'm here to take it,” he said.
Around 5:20pm, a passerby was found walking along Douglas Ferry Road, a trainee said. According to WMBB, she was abused and placed in a container in Gipson's garden, tied her legs and measured the plywood and escaped.

Gibson then took the victim to his residence, continued to abuse her at his home, and then placed her in a container in his garden, officials said.
The victim was able to escape, then headed to Douglas Ferry Road where a passing driver found her, officials said.
The victim was taken to hospital and was in stable condition, officials said.

A search was made for multiple agencies, including Holmes, Bay and Jackson County Sheriff's Office, former US S-Service, Florida Highway Patrol, Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission, and Florida Department of Law Enforcement. The manhunt ended Tuesday afternoon when Gipson was found hiding in a muddy ditch to avoid the scented dog.

Gipson was said to be a habitual offender in his previous 33 felony charges, WJHG-TV reportedadded that his latest release was in March.
