Ex-Georgia Democratic Candidate Arrested in Operation Against Child Sex Trafficking

A press release from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) highlights that a Georgia Democrat, who previously ran for a state seat and has made disturbing remarks about President Trump, has been implicated in a recent operation.

The initiative, dubbed “Operation Lights Out,” took place over four days from April 24 to April 28, 2025. It involved the Georgia Internet Crime (ICAC) Task Force, GBI, and the Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office, and was the result of months of planning with collaboration from 12 law enforcement agencies.

The operation aimed to “identify individuals engaging in sexually explicit communications with minors” and to catch those planning to meet children with the intention of committing sexual acts.

In total, the operation led to 32 arrests, including Carl Sprayberry, a 32-year-old who had sought election in Georgia’s 139th district in November 2024. He is facing charges related to human trafficking.

These multi-agency efforts specifically targeted those looking to exploit children by attempting to purchase sex from minors:

The focus of “Operation Lights Out” was on identifying people who were involved in sexually explicit conversations with children online, aiming to meet them for sexual activities. It also focused on individuals willing to exploit minors for sex. Predators typically use social networking platforms, messaging apps, and various websites to locate children, strike up conversations, and arrange meetings, targeting both boys and girls.

Sprayberry had made alarming posts on X earlier this year, where he claimed Trump committed “treason” and made worrying statements about the potential consequences if Congress did not act:

Donald Trump committed a crime of treason. If Congress refuses to take action, he will be killed by people according to the Second Amendment.

In another comment directed at actor Morgan Freeman, Sprayberry suggested it was time to take drastic measures, saying, “This is why there is a Second Amendment.” He also urged that “Secret Service agents should shoot him.”

The operation also led to the arrest of several others, including Marquise Anderson, 37, a truck driver from Alabama, charged with human trafficking, and Roger Berks, 62, an aircraft inspector from Georgia, charged under the 2007 Electronic Pornography and Child Exploitation Act. Javious Davenport, 30, also faced trafficking charges.

Muscogee County officials urged parents to monitor their children’s interactions to prevent them from communicating with such dangerous individuals. “These predators come from near and far to exploit your children. We take these crimes against children very seriously,” said Greg Countyman.
