During a live broadcast on HBO on Friday, Bill Maher took aim at Republicans, particularly mocking their claims about tax increases on the wealthy. He argued that tax hikes on rich individuals “never happen,” emphasizing his own inability to pay more taxes voluntarily.
While discussing the budget plans from the Trump administration, Maher pointed out proposed increases to the Pentagon’s budget, despite claims of cost-saving measures within the military. He criticized the administration for pledging to cut spending elsewhere, aside from border security.
In response to Maher, Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), former chairman and representative, stated, “There’s nothing to stop you from writing a bigger check.” Maher’s retort was somewhat cut off.
