Doug Burgum discusses overlooked dangers to Trump by the Reflecting Pool

Threatening Messages Targeting Trump Near Lincoln Memorial

On Saturday, Interior Secretary Doug Burgum revealed that there have been unreported cases of individuals sending “threatening messages” aimed at President Trump around the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. He also called for action regarding the recent vandalism.

“Up to now, we’ve made seven arrests and received numerous other calls—18 police calls, to be exact. There have been several incidents involving threats directed at President Trump, both on the lawn and in the pool area, which weren’t disclosed prior to the recent issues,” he stated.

Burgum mentioned, “President Trump came to D.C. with the aim of draining the swamp, but some people seem intent on filling it back up. It’s quite chaotic, as he often says.”

The vandals reportedly marked the area surrounding the reflecting pool with a large “8647,” and an Interior Department spokesperson noted issues related to “severed fuel lines around the Great American State Fair.” It’s worth mentioning that Mr. Trump is the 47th president.

Burgum commented on the 2,028-foot-long pool, which underwent renovation with a “$14.7 million contract” for a blue sealant painted with a “Stars and Stripes” motif. He asserted that the vandalism was an affront to the Lincoln Memorial itself, emphasizing the historical significance of the structure.

“When individuals misuse box cutters to damage this pool, it’s akin to vandalizing the Lincoln statue itself,” he claimed.

His mention of a box cutter echoes Trump’s earlier statements about damage done to the pool, which included remarks about a roughly 300-foot cut made into it, suggesting the renovations were compromised by vandalism as well.

“We’re dealing with about 100 cuts… likely around 290 to 300 feet, made with something akin to a box cutter or knife,” the president said on June 22.

After the incidents, the maintenance crew hastily erected a safety fence to protect the pool area.

Additionally, President Trump accused vandals of introducing fertilizer into the pool to induce an algae bloom, claiming that workers had to use gallons of hydrogen peroxide to counter it, although he did not provide supporting evidence.

“They did something to create algae,” Trump contended.

The White House has been actively seeking public tips, urging those with information to aid in identifying suspects linked to the destruction of government property.
