Joe Pantoliano wishes to ‘escape’ the US under President Donald Trump.

Joe Pantoliano Considered Leaving the U.S. for Portugal

Joe Pantoliano is seeking a shift in his surroundings. The actor, known for his role as Ralph “Ralphy” Sifalette in HBO’s “The Sopranos,” recently expressed dissatisfaction with the current political climate and President Donald Trump.

The 73-year-old shared on social media that he is looking into obtaining a visa to move to Portugal.

While attending the “Tucci in Italy” premiere in New York, Pantoliano shared his thoughts about the country’s political situation. “I’m very uncomfortable with what’s happening here. Honestly, I just want to escape,” he remarked. He elaborated that focusing on creative work has become challenging amid the chaos, saying, “It’s tough when the world feels like it’s in disarray.”

Pantoliano and his wife, Nancy Shepherd, recently returned from a trip to Portugal, where they are now contemplating establishing a new home. “We really love it there,” he noted, although he mentioned concerns about recent cyber attacks that affected the region’s power grid, causing an 18-hour blackout.

“I can’t help but wonder… is this just a preview of what’s to come here?” he pondered, noting the importance of planning ahead. He even hinted at keeping extra cash at home as a precaution.

In a more serious tone, he conveyed his intentions about potentially moving, stating, “We’re seriously looking into getting a visa. It seems like a nice place to retire.” He expressed his fondness for walking and enjoying the scenery there, saying, “It suits me well.”

Pantoliano’s feelings resonate with a growing trend among celebrities seeking to leave the U.S. Rosie O’Donnell, for instance, moved to Ireland just before Trump’s inauguration, citing her son’s well-being in her decision.

In a recent interview, O’Donnell reflected on her move, shedding light on her ongoing issues with Trump. Meanwhile, Ellen DeGeneres and her wife Portia de Rossi are also considering a possible retreat from the U.S. following the upcoming presidential election.
