FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Lionel Messi contributed both goals and assists as Fafa Picoll found the net for the second consecutive match, leading Inter Miami to a 4-1 victory over the New York Red Bulls on Saturday night.
Inter Miami (6-1-3) bounced back after a narrow 4-3 loss to Dallas, maintaining an impressive unbeaten streak of eight games to start the season.
Messi scored in the 67th minute, showcasing some impressive teamwork with Terrasco Segovia. After a series of exchanges, Messi cleverly maneuvered past defender Noah Ire before striking the ball with his left foot from the center of the area.
Picarto opened the scoring for Miami in the 9th minute, capitalizing on a failed clearance by the Red Bulls. Marcelo Weigandt sent a lob from the right, which Luis Suárez flicked towards the back post, allowing Picart to tap it in.
Weigandt then netted a goal in the 30th minute, followed by Suárez, who scored his first goal since March 2nd, extending Miami’s lead to 3-0 in the 39th minute.
The Red Bulls (4-4-3) managed to get on the scoreboard just before halftime in the 43rd minute. Mohamed Sopho headed in from a corner by Omar Valencia, bringing the score to 3-1.
Weigandt also netted from close range, while Suárez added another goal, tapping in after his initial shot was blocked by Kyle Duncan, ensuring Miami’s dominance.
Notably, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and veteran wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., currently a free agent, were present at the match.
