Taxpayers hurry to submit early, attracted by savings – eKathimerini.com

In Greece, a remarkable number of taxpayers have already submitted their 2024 income declarations, with nearly half (46.6%) completing this within the first 43 days of the available 119-day period, as reported by Independent Public Income (AADE).

This surge in filings can be attributed to tax discounts that motivate people to submit early. After the first deadline, which has already passed, those filing now can enjoy a 4% discount, while submissions made by June 15th and paid by July 31st receive a 3% discount. There’s a final 2% discount for declarations turned in between June 16th and July 15th.

Of the 3.16 million submissions made by April 30, the average tax owed was 1,826 euros, leading to about 30% (946,480) facing a tax bill. Meanwhile, roughly 25% (790,882) are expecting an average refund of 298 euros, with more than half of these refunds already disbursed. The rest, about 45% (1.42 million), were tax-neutral.

Kiriakos Pierakakis, the Minister of National Economy and Finance, expressed satisfaction at the early engagement, labeling it as a record. He also highlighted the positive impact of the ongoing digital modernization of the tax system, remarking on how it simplifies filing procedures and enhances financial planning for individuals and the state.
