Xi Jinping to Attend Russia’s Victory Day Celebration in Moscow from May 7 to 10

Moscow: Chinese President Xi Jinping is set to visit Russia from May 7 to 10 to participate in the commemorations marking the 80th anniversary of Nazi Germany’s defeat, according to a statement from the Kremlin on Sunday.

The Kremlin indicated that Xi will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss and finalize several documents aimed at enhancing the strategic partnership between the two nations.

During their discussions, the key areas of collaboration and the current international and regional matters will be covered, the Kremlin mentioned.

The Soviet Union, which endured the loss of 27 million lives during World War II, managed to push Nazi forces back to Berlin, where Hitler ultimately took his own life. In 1945, the Red Soviets raised their victory flag.

Other national leaders, including the presidents of Brazil and Serbia and the Prime Minister of Slovakia, are also expected to attend the celebrations.

President Putin suggested a three-day ceasefire with Ukraine around the May 9th festivities, which hold special significance in Russia.

In response, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy stated that he would be open to a ceasefire lasting 30 days instead.

Zelenskiy further remarked that due to the ongoing conflict with Russia, he cannot ensure the safety of foreign officials visiting Moscow for the traditional victory parade on May 9th.
