On Saturday, Yankees fans embraced an unforgettable moment during their game against the Rays.
At Yankee Stadium, as foul balls started flying, one dad was ready to catch them. His daughter, perched on his shoulder, added a twist to the situation by playfully covering his eyes just as a foul ball came their way.
Despite this obstacle, he managed to snag the ball with his glove, pulling it into his chest and lifting his hands in triumph.
Jeff Nelson, a Yankees broadcaster, remarked on the scene, saying, “It’s the power of a dad who’s right there.” Highlights of the moment aired on the network.
After catching the ball, the father handed it to his daughter, sharing a special memory.
Unfortunately for the Yankees, they lost to the Rays 3-2, and the day was further complicated by injuries, notably with Anthony Volpe missing out on the lineup for Sunday’s finale.
While the Yankees initially took the lead, including a homer from Aaron Judge, they ultimately lost their advantage. Following hurricane-related damage to Tropicana Field, the Rays played this season at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, overcoming a four-game losing streak to score two runs in the eighth inning and seize the lead.
As they headed into Sunday’s matchup, the Rays had already established a 2-0 lead.
