Caitlyn Clark exchanged some light-hearted moments with Brazil’s national team coach, Leo Figuero, during a break in the action of the game between the Fever and Brazil. This happened in the second quarter of the match, and Clark was mic’d up for an ESPN broadcast from Carver Hawkeye Arena in Iowa.
Figuero expressed his admiration for Iowa graduates, stating they have significantly impacted sports. Clark, in a gracious manner, thanked him for being there to compete against them.
“You’re an exceptional player, congratulations,” Figuero told her after they exchanged pleasantries. Clark, in return, responded, “I appreciate it. Thanks for playing us.” When she asked how many players he had faced, he simply replied, “Yes.”
The exhibition game took place at the University of Iowa, which has always been a focal point for basketball enthusiasts, especially considering it’s where Clark played. In a dominating performance, Clark and the Fever defeated Brazil 108-44 in front of an enthusiastic crowd.
Clark mentioned her aim was to entertain the fans during the exhibition games. “I really want to give them something to cheer for. My goal is to get them involved and excited,” she said. “I told my teammates that this would be the loudest arena they’ve ever played in, so I have to make some shots to keep everyone on their feet.”
She started the game strong, finishing the first quarter with a signature pull-up three-pointer that thrilled the audience and echoed her early days at Iowa.
