The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) is preparing to return firearms to homeowners who may have lost them during the Palisade fire in January.
LAPD has reached out to those who think their guns were affected, encouraging them to contact the department’s gun recovery unit via email to facilitate the process of reclaiming their firearms.
Many of the missing firearms, including shotguns, rifles, and handguns, have suffered significant fire damage, complicating efforts for investigators to identify serial numbers.
“We acknowledge that these firearms, whether family heirlooms, historical items, or personal keepsakes, can carry deep sentimental value,” remarked Alan Hamilton, assistant director of the LAPD Criminal Affairs Bureau.
There are approximately 500 firearms that the LAPD aims to reunite with their original owners.
