Middle East crisis update: Israel greenlights efforts to increase operations in Gaza | World news

Israel Strengthens Military Operations in Gaza

Israeli ministers have decided to intensify military actions against Hamas in Gaza, according to officials.

Reports from the Associated Press indicate that Israel plans to seize additional territory within the heavily impacted Palestinian area and mobilize tens of thousands of reserve soldiers. The approach, described by an official as gradual, may signal a notable escalation in the ongoing conflict, which reignited in mid-March after a failed attempt to extend an eight-week ceasefire. The official requested anonymity due to regulations.

On Sunday, Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir, the chief of staff for the Israeli military, announced the mobilization of many reserve soldiers and indicated that operations would expand into more areas of Gaza, continuing to target militant infrastructure.

Currently, Israel controls about half of Gaza’s territories, including a buffer zone along its border and three east-west corridors within the strip. This control has significantly reduced the living space for Palestinians already suffering from the effects of ongoing conflict.

We will provide further updates as they become available.
