States led by Democrats file a lawsuit against Trump for hindering wind energy initiatives | Trump administration

A group of Democratic state attorneys general has accused Donald Trump of attempting to obstruct efforts to suspend leases and promote new wind projects, which could significantly undermine vital sources of clean energy in the wind industry.

In a lawsuit filed in federal court in Boston, 17 states along with the District of Columbia claimed that the Republican president’s action to indefinitely suspend all federal energy approvals is unlawful and must be challenged.

Trump announced this halt on January 20, his first day in office, instructing his administration to cease offshore wind lease sales and to stop permitting, leasing, and funding for both land and offshore wind initiatives.

According to New York Attorney General Letitia James, this administration is jeopardizing one of the country’s most rapidly growing sources of clean, reliable, and affordable energy.

The lawsuit is seeking a court ruling to declare the indefinite suspension illegal, along with an order that would prevent agencies like the U.S. Department of Commerce and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) from enforcing Trump’s directives.

The White House has not yet provided a response to requests for comment.
