On Monday, President Donald Trump announced that the 2027 NFL Draft will take place in Washington, D.C., with Mayor Muriel Bowser (D) present alongside NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.
Trump confirmed the location during an announcement in the Oval Office, in the company of Washington Commander owner Josh Harris.
“Hosting the 2027 NFL Draft is significant. It will be held at the National Mall in our nation’s capital,” Trump stated.
“It’s going to be stunning… Other places might try to match it, but I doubt they’ll succeed. It’s incredibly exciting,” he added.
The president highlighted that the three-day event will generate jobs and tourism for the district.
Goodell thanked Trump for the announcement, predicting that over a million visitors would come to the mall to witness the draft, especially after a successful event in Green Bay, Wisconsin, in late April.
“Just recently, Green Bay attracted over 600,000 attendees, while Detroit saw nearly 800,000 the previous year. As the president mentioned, we expect DC to draw over a million people in 2027,” he said.
“We believe this site is fantastic, aligning with the president’s vision of investing in our community, particularly in the capital,” he added.
This announcement follows the signing of a contract for the Washington Commanders to return to the site of the RFK Stadium in Northeast D.C., where a new stadium will be constructed.
“I can’t think of a better location anywhere in the world than that,” Trump remarked regarding the upcoming stadium.
