Trump Proposes a Way to End Birthright Citizenship via Congress

Trump Advocates for Ending Birthright Citizenship Following Supreme Court Ruling

President Donald Trump is looking to Congress to eliminate birthright citizenship after the Supreme Court upheld it in a recent 5-4 decision.

On Truth Social, the president described the ruling as “too bad” for America, but suggested that Congress has an opportunity to legislate changes to end birthright citizenship.

He stated, “The Supreme Court has upheld birthright citizenship, which is too bad for our country, but can easily be made up for in Congress through legislation decided through this process, with the support of the President. We don’t need a long and unwieldy constitutional amendment!”

Trump urged Congress to take action immediately, asserting that birthright citizenship is costly and unjust. He emphasized, “They have my full and complete support!”

The president also expressed enthusiasm for other court decisions that benefit Republicans.

He commended the court’s ruling in State of West Virginia vs. BPJ, affirming that states can prohibit biological males from participating in girls’ and women’s sports.

Trump celebrated this decision, stating, “Big victory! The United States Supreme Court has ruled against men participating in women’s sports. Wow! Now that ridiculous situation is off the table!!!”

Justice Brett Kavanaugh authored the majority opinion for the 6-3 ruling, which concluded that Title IX allows for separate teams based on biological sex.

“The Constitution and Title IX do not require a complete overhaul of women’s and girls’ sports across America,” Kavanaugh wrote.

He added that Title IX supports schools in having distinct women’s and men’s sports teams based on biological sex, which aligns with West Virginia’s regulations for women’s sports.

The opinion further elaborated that Title IX prohibits discrimination based on sex in any educational program that receives federal funding. Following its enactment in 1972, it mandated that schools provide equal athletic opportunities, allowing for separate teams when necessary.

Trump also lauded another 6-3 ruling that lifted restrictions on political spending, linking it to First Amendment rights.

He remarked on Truth Social, “The Supreme Court just lifted restrictions on political spending! A huge victory for the Republican Party and, more importantly, the First Amendment!”
