A Premier League match between Tottenham and Aston Villa has been moved up by two days to assist Spurs in their preparations for the Europa League final, which they have not yet secured a place in. Initially set for May 18, this game will now take place on May 16 after the Premier League approved Tottenham’s request to reschedule.
The Europa League final is scheduled for May 21 in Bilbao. Spurs might feel optimistic about their chances of reaching their first major European final in six years, as they currently lead Norwegian team Bodø/Glimt 3-1 after the first leg of the semi-final. However, Bodø/Glimt will come into the return leg on Thursday buoyed by a late goal scored at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium—and they’ll likely have a lively crowd backing them from home.
Aston Villa appears prepared to make a push concerning the Premier League if they consent to Tottenham’s request for a change in the date of their last home game of the season, although the statement released on Tuesday did not confirm this new schedule. It’s worth noting that there has been no precedent for Premier League matches being rescheduled to benefit clubs participating in European competitions.
Meanwhile, Manchester United leads Athletic Bilbao 3-0 against Chelsea as they prepare for the second semi-final match at Old Trafford on Thursday.
