Abrego Garcia Case Is Not Just About ‘One Person’ I’ve Referred to as ‘Marylander’ Father of Child with Disabilities

During CNN’s “The Lead” on Monday, Senator Jamie Raskin (D-MD) responded to a question about whether Kilmar Abrego Garcia should be a focus by stating, “Due process isn’t about one case or one individual.”

Host Jake Tapper noted that Raskin’s Texas colleague, Democrat Henry Cuellar, had expressed concerns, saying, “This isn’t the right question to discuss a legitimate process. …He may not be the right person to bring back to the U.S.” Cuellar mentioned that Abrego Garcia’s wife had accused him of domestic violence in a police report, though it hasn’t been established in court. He questioned whether Cuellar’s skepticism about Abrego Garcia’s MS-13 membership might be valid and if this really deserves attention in discussions about due process.

Raskin replied, “Due process involves more than just one case or one individual. There were opinions suggesting that Donald Trump shouldn’t receive due process after being convicted of multiple felonies. This is fundamentally about constitutional principles, and our sentiments shouldn’t sway that.”

Back in April, Raskin highlighted Abrego Garcia’s situation, emphasizing he is a Maryland resident married to a U.S. citizen and is the father of a U.S. citizen child with autism.
