DOGE Claims It Has Helped Save More than $1,000 for Each Taxpayer

The Government Efficiency Office (DOGE) reports it has saved over $1,000 for each taxpayer.

DOGE estimates that total savings have reached about $165 billion. This figure comes from a variety of sources including “asset sales, contract cancellations and renegotiations, eliminating fraud and improper payments, grant cancellations, interest savings, program adjustments, regulatory savings, and workforce reductions.”

Specifically, the savings total approximately $1,024.84 per taxpayer, calculated based on roughly 161 million federal taxpayers in the U.S.

At present, DOGE’s “Receipt Wall” shows 9,497 termination agreements, bringing savings of $320 billion. Among these, over $2.9 billion is attributed to savings from a canceled internal contracting office, detailed below.

A facility designed for refugee resettlement and influx, capable of accommodating up to 3,000 unaccompanied minors. The agreement featured full child care and case management services.

DOGE also reports 11,654 grant cancellations amounting to $37 billion in savings, and 592 lease terminations yielding savings of $291 million.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) leads in savings generation, followed by the General Services Agency (GSA), the Department of Education, and the Office of Personnel Management. Agencies with minimal savings include the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Department of Energy, NASA, and the Department of Transportation.

The Department of Transportation has not ranked highly but is still generating savings. DOGE recently commended Secretary Sean Duffy for canceling “a wasteful grant of $54 million with $51 million in savings.”

These grants include $6 million aimed at “a collaborative effort to address safety issues faced by women and gender nonconforming individuals,” and a plan associated with New York City’s “high local pollution exposure inequality.”

“@USDOT is making substantial efforts to curtail waste and more updates will follow soon!” DOGE noted.

Acting GSA administrator Stephen Ehikian also highlighted the organization’s savings, reporting a substantial reduction of $30 billion in “government-wide contracts.”
