Be Patient: John Kennedy Shares One Deception He Believes China Is Telling the US

Concerns Over China’s Economic Data

Republican Senator John Kennedy from Louisiana expressed skepticism about China’s economic growth during an appearance on Fox Business with Larry Kudlow. He suggested that the numbers may not be accurate.

On Tuesday, Treasury Secretary Scott Bescent informed a congressional subcommittee that the Trump administration had not engaged in discussions with China to negotiate an end to trade tariffs. During the broadcast, Kennedy remarked that he believed China’s economy was “weak as rainwater.” He added, “I bet you soda and a lovely hat that China’s economy has not grown at over 2%.” He also mentioned that while the situation is tough for the U.S., it might be worse for China.

President Trump previously announced a 90-day suspension of mutual tariffs, effective until April 9. This was shortly after he unveiled substantial tariff increases on Chinese imports, followed by a presidential order eliminating exemptions for packages sent directly from China, which would incur a 25% or 30% tariff.

“It simply doesn’t make sense to trust China,” Kennedy noted, emphasizing that the Chinese government is prone to deceit. He pointed out that while China may either buy from the U.S. or sell significantly more to them, ultimately, America would prevail in a trade war.

Kevin O’Leary, a “Shark Tank” investor, urged the Trump administration to take a stronger stance on this issue, reiterating that China has been “cheating” by withholding crucial economic data. Kennedy agreed, stating that he trusts God but believes one must be cautious in dealing with China, alluding to the country’s history of deception since joining the World Trade Organization.
