A Virginia homeowner is accused of fatally shooting an 18-year-old high school athlete after the teenager and two friends allegedly slammed the shooter’s door while playing “Ding Dong Ditch” early Saturday morning.
Tyler Chase Butler, 27, faces charges related to the death of senior Michael Bosworth Jr. and the injury of one of his friends, as reported by police.
Butler asserts that the teenager was attempting to break into his home; however, the injured teen claims they were merely filming pranks, which were later shared on TikTok, based on police documents obtained by a local source.
The friend who was injured said that the group was searching for a hiding spot when gunshots were fired, according to reports.
Another teenager involved stated they were indeed playing “Ding Dong Ditch,” confirming their intentions during the incident.
Bosworth was a senior at Massaponax High School, where he played lacrosse, soccer, and participated in wrestling, as shared by his stepfather with NBC 4 Washington.
Tragically, the shooting occurred on the same day as Bosworth’s high school prom, which was scheduled for later that evening.
Butler now faces charges including second-degree murder, malicious wounding, and two counts of using a firearm in the commission of a felony, as stated by the sheriff’s office.
He is currently being held at Rappahannock Regional Prison.
