Joe Rogan Comments on Canada’s Liberal Government Re-Election
Podcaster Joe Rogan expressed his surprise on Tuesday at Canada’s decision to re-elect a liberal government amid various controversies. Canada’s liberals secured their position for the fourth consecutive time during the federal elections held on April 28th. Interestingly, Pierre Poilievre was set to take over as prime minister when Justin Trudeau announced his intention to step down. This shift occurred partly due to the pressures from former President Donald Trump’s trade policies and possible annexation vibes towards Canada, which ultimately favored liberal candidate Mark Carney.
During the podcast, Rogan’s guest, Cameron Haynes, noted the fallout from the Freedom Convoy protests against Trudeau’s government in 2022. Rogan remarked, recalling the incident where financial supporters of the convoy had their bank accounts frozen, “And that same party won again. Good job, Canada!”
Rogan went on to share that he had invited Poilievre to join him on the podcast, but the conservative leader declined. “I thought it was just too much of a problem,” Rogan said, smiling while teasingly lamenting about the situation.
There was a notable moment in the podcast where Rogan posed straightforward questions about Canadian politics. He quipped about how the political landscape seemed perplexing: “What’s wrong with Canada? How did this happen?” It highlights the casual yet candid nature of his discussions.
Footage from Trump’s appearance on the podcast has since been spotlighted as a significant moment leading up to the 2024 elections, with various observers dubbing it a “podcast election.” The episode emphasized the impact of social media and alternative platforms on political discourse.
As the dialogue continued, Haynes dismissed concerns about guests experiencing pressure during interviews. Despite not being a “gotcha” host, Rogan maintained that he hopefully steered clear of politics while engaging with guests, wanting to understand their perspectives more than anything else.
In a lighter moment, Rogan reflected, “It must have been fun,” hinting at the unpredictable nature of political discussions. As for Poilievre’s team, they were contacted for feedback but had not responded immediately.
