Alijah Arenas update: USC recruit’s father states basketball player is recovering

Gilbert Arenas Discusses Son’s Recovery After Car Accident

Former NBA player Gilbert Arenas shared details about the serious car accident involving his son, Alijah, which occurred last month and left him in a coma for a period. Alijah, a USC recruit, was discharged from the hospital six days after losing control of his Cybertruck while returning from a gym session in Los Angeles.

Arenas provided an update on his son’s condition during an interview. “He’s doing very well,” he mentioned, expressing relief as there were no significant injuries. “That’s really what you can hope for,” he added.

Typically, Arenas would check his Tesla app in the early mornings to keep track of Alijah, who usually is either at the gym or heading home. However, on the morning of the crash, he was initially under the impression his son was still working out until his daughter informed him otherwise. Alijah was trapped in the vehicle for about 12 minutes.

Reflecting on the incident, Arenas recounted, “My main concern was making sure he didn’t have broken bones or burns. Thankfully, there were bystanders who heard the accident and helped get him out.” He noted that his son was conscious but was placed in a medically induced coma to assist with breathing.

Alijah, who committed to USC in January, has a notable basketball background. While attending Chatsworth High School, he achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first boy in the region to accumulate 3,000 career points, earning the title of a five-star recruit in the process.
