House Committees Update DOJ on ActBlue Investigation
On Wednesday, three key committees in the House of Representatives informed the Department of Justice (DOJ) about their ongoing inquiry into ActBlue, a fundraising platform used by Democrats.
House Oversight Committee Chairman James Komer, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, and another panel member have been examining Democratic fundraising operations for several years. In their letter, they highlighted concerns regarding ActBlue’s practices, stating that the investigation aims to scrutinize the platform responsible for organizing donations for Democratic candidates.
The letter pointed out that investigations indicated ActBlue’s inadequate fraud prevention measures, which may allow various malpractices, including contributions from foreign entities that could undermine U.S. political processes.
In late 2023, concerns were originally raised by Steele regarding ActBlue’s failure to require a card validation value (CVV) for credit card donations. The committee noted that ActBlue’s response to inquiries about its policies was unsatisfactory. However, by August 2024, it appeared that the CVV requirement had been implemented for donations linked to several campaigns, including that of former Vice President Kamala Harris.
The pressure from Republican members has prompted further scrutiny, and Steele’s committee requested details regarding ActBlue’s donor verification processes and contributions from outside the U.S.
According to the committee’s letter, ActBlue’s past policies allowed unverified payments, raising alarm about potential foreign interference during significant campaign periods. Although ActBlue has since modified its procedures to require CVV codes for donations, the committee expressed skepticism about whether these measures sufficiently protect against external threats.
A report issued last month claimed that the executives at ActBlue were aware of the exploits by foreign and fraudulent parties but were not treating the issue with the necessary seriousness.
Fox News Digital attempted to get in touch with ActBlue for comments, but the platform previously dismissed Steele’s claims as inaccurate and misleading, asserting that it maintains strict anti-fraud measures. A spokesman for the DOJ acknowledged receipt of the committee’s letter but declined to provide additional comments.
