Rep. Sri Taneder (D-Mich.) will hold a City Hall event in Detroit this weekend, aimed at discussing President Trump’s actions, as noted by his office.
Recently, Taneder revealed he submitted seven articles related to the president. However, it seems unlikely that these will advance through a GOP-led House, particularly concerning issues like the tariff agenda, media relations, administrative efficiency, and the deportation of Kilmer Abrego Garcia.
“When Trump disregards the Constitution, Congress, and the courts, he’s not ‘fighting for America.’ Instead, Michigan lawmakers argue he’s undermining it and endangering our democracy,” said Taneder, prompting a reaction from Trump.
“Today, they did it again. I’ve never heard of it… is he a lawmaker? This guy, he… ‘Ladies and gentlemen, I’m here to address Donald Trump’s actions,'” Trump remarked at a rally in the Great Lakes State, marking his 100th day in office. “What did I do now? I’m coming here,” he added.
Taneder’s actions reflect a growing discontent among Democrats regarding Trump’s second term, positioning himself as a strong resistance figure for the party. He is currently serving his second term representing Michigan’s 13th district.
During the upcoming City Hall meeting, Taneder is expected to elaborate on his articles. According to his office’s announcement, his resolution “clarifies why this action is crucial for accountability and for the integrity of American democracy.”
Shortly after the resolution was announced, three Democrats signaled their intention to withdraw as co-sponsors. This indicates that some party members may be hesitant to pursue a complicated path requiring Republican support to secure the vote.
The House will vote, followed by the Senate, on whether to impeach and convict. Currently, both chambers are controlled by Republicans.
Trump was impeached twice during his first term but was acquitted by the Senate on both occasions.
