Democrat strategist James Carville recently discussed comments made by Rep. Ilhan Omar during his podcast, particularly her remarks about white men. This conversation followed a clip from a 2018 Al Jazeera interview that gained traction again.
In the resurfaced interview, Omar suggested that the U.S. should be more fearful of white individuals, claiming they contribute to the majority of deaths in the country. Carville, reacting to this statement, indicated that such views are detrimental for Democrats, arguing it’s poor strategy to demonize an entire demographic.
He posed a rhetorical question to women, encouraging them to consider forming their own party. His point was that eventually, political representation should reflect a more balanced approach, suggesting that women could achieve better results beyond the current Democratic framework.
Polling data from Gallup revealed that 45% of Democrats and independents wish for a shift towards a more moderate party stance. Carville has previously suggested a split among leftist factions from the Democrats, as it may not help the party’s overall appeal.
During a separate discussion, former Clinton pollster Mark Penn pointed out that Democrats are facing challenges as many Americans perceive them as overly partisan and drifting too far on certain policy matters. Recent polls from NBC News also reflected a drop in popularity for the Democrats, with approval ratings sitting between 27% and 29%.
