Biden Bolsters Image Amid Trump Administration Developments
Former President Joe Biden has enlisted a Democratic strategist, Chris Meger, to help strengthen his public image as the Trump administration gears up to release an audio recording of his conversation with reporters, where lawyers referred to Biden having “poor memories.”
Biden’s team is looking to defend the credibility of anonymous sources, reflecting on the former president’s political history. Meanwhile, the Trump administration is set to unveil an audio of Biden’s October 2023 discussion with former special advisor Robert Huar.
In 2023, former Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed Huar to look into how Biden managed classified documents. It was found that Biden had intentionally retained classified materials. Still, Huar opted not to recommend charges against him. In February 2024, Huar’s report portrayed Biden as a “sympathetic, well-meaning elderly man with poor memory.”
Meger, who has worked with notable figures like former Transport Secretary Pete Buttigieg and Democratic Governor Gretchen Whitmer, played a key role in promoting Biden’s upcoming co-interview with First Lady Jill Biden on ABC’s “The View.” This marks Biden’s first joint interview since Donald Trump assumed office again in January.
Some Democrats have voiced worries about Biden’s mental clarity after his performance in a June 2024 presidential debate, yet Meger stands firm in defending him. “Sure, Biden is older, but that’s not the same as claiming he is mentally unfit for his job—there’s simply no proof of that,” Meger noted in a post.
Despite concerns, Biden expressed in a Wednesday interview that his administration had been successful in pushing its agenda. He also reflected on his decision to run for re-election in 2024, describing it as challenging.
Meger has not responded to requests for comment.
