On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed the heartfelt wishes of the Indian people to Pope Leo XIV, emphasizing India’s dedication to ongoing dialogue and collaboration based on shared values.
Robert Prevost was elected the first pope from the United States on Thursday, marking a historic moment for the Catholic Church. At 69, the member of Augustine’s religious order has chosen the name Leo XIV.
“I extend the sincere wishes of the people of India to his holiness Pope Leo XIV. His leadership comes at a significant time for promoting peace, harmony, solidarity, and service,” Modi said.
Continuing, he noted, “India is committed to engaging in dialogue on these sacred principles to advance our shared values.”
The Holy See, also referred to as the Roman Apostolic See, serves as the central governing body of the Catholic Church and the Vatican.
