Former Supreme Court Justice David Souter Passes Away at 85

Former Supreme Court Justice David Starr died on Thursday at the age of 85 at his home in New Hampshire, as announced by the court.

Appointed by President George H.W. Bush in 1990, Starr served on the bench for over 19 years.

“Judge David Starr distinguished himself in our courts for nearly two decades, bringing a unique blend of wisdom and kindness to public service,” remarked Chief Justice John Roberts. “After his retirement to cherished New Hampshire in 2009, he continued to serve the First Circuit Court of Appeals regularly for more than a decade, offering significant contributions to our judicial system. His work has gone largely unrecognized.”
