Fatal Stabbing Incident in Houston
On April 26, a man in Houston, with a past involving domestic violence, was accused of fatally stabbing his female roommate.
Houston Police (HPD) responded to the apartment for a wellness check and discovered blood on the back patio upon arrival. In the kitchen, they found 23-year-old Elizabeth Odunsi, who had been stabbed multiple times. Paramedics declared her dead at the scene.
Police later located 40-year-old Chester Lamar Grant in the apartment’s bedroom, where he had sustained at least one stab wound. Authorities took him to the hospital in serious condition, while investigators looked into the possibility of self-harm.
According to HPD, Grant lived with Odunsi, and they determined he was a suspect in her murder. Both were residents of a student housing complex. Tragically, Odunsi was set to graduate shortly after her death, having completed her nursing degree at Texas Women’s University.
Grant was also a student, attending Fordham University. He was arrested on May 2 and officially charged with murder.
Reports surfaced that a dispute between Grant and Odunsi over a cat might have escalated to violence, leading to a shocking confrontation where she suffered multiple stab wounds.
Hours before Odunsi’s body was found, officers were dispatched to their apartment due to a disturbance. Residents of the complex confirmed this. It came to light in court that Grant had a history of domestic violence, including arrests in Washington state.
The rental was reportedly managed through a service intended for finding roommates. Their policy emphasizes background checks, but it appears Grant’s previous issues were not identified at the time.
The landlord expressed sorrow over the situation, stating that both Grant and Odunsi passed background checks that revealed no indications of prior violence. They mentioned being deeply disturbed by the incident.
