Dee Snyder’s New Life in North Carolina

Dee Snyder, the frontman of Twisted Sister, made the move from Los Angeles to North Carolina a few years back, embracing what he calls the “Open Road” lifestyle.

At 70, Snyder, along with his wife, decided to leave the bustling life of LA, seeking a peaceful existence they had never truly experienced. They had relocated their whole family about a decade ago, and a few years later, felt the urge for a quieter life.

“We looked from coast to coast and gradually honed in on North Carolina,” he shared. “Eventually, it became our top choice. We traveled from the western edge to the coast, exploring different towns along the way.”

The rock icon spoke highly of the warm welcome they received in North Carolina, mentioning, “It’s just lovely here. My four adult children and six grandchildren are all here with us. This really feels like home now.”

Snyder met his wife, Suzette, back in 1981 when she used a fake ID to attend one of his shows. “She thought she was going to see a girls’ band,” he recalled. Upon meeting, he was struck by her beauty and humorously predicted she’d become famous one day. They’ve been together ever since.

Suzette played a significant role in the band, working as the costume designer and creating their iconic logo. Together, they have four children: Jesse, 42; Shane, 37; Cody, 35; and Cheyenne, 28.

For Snyder, the joys of rural life in North Carolina revolve around the “open road.” He expressed his love for driving, noting, “The roads here are fantastic, and as an avid motorcycle rider, it’s a relief compared to the hectic streets of LA and New York. Here, I can truly enjoy the scenery.”

However, he admitted that not every ride goes smoothly. He quipped, “I recently learned that sometimes the trail wins—I took a spill the other day while on my bike. It happens!”
