Saudi Foreign Minister Engages in Dialogue Amid India-Pakistan Tensions
Riyadh: Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister, Faisal bin Fahan bin Abdullah, recently held separate conversations with India’s Foreign Minister and Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dal. These discussions were primarily centered on the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, as well as efforts to bring an end to the ongoing military conflict.
In a post on X, it was mentioned that the dialogue really emphasized Saudi Arabia’s commitment to regional security and stability. The statement noted that Prince Faisal made two significant calls with India’s Foreign Minister and Dr. Ishaq Dal from Pakistan.
During the discussions, the focus was on de-escalating tensions and seeking to conclude the ongoing military strife. The Prince reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s dedication to maintaining regional harmony and fostering balanced relationships between the involved nations.
On the same day, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio also communicated with S. Jaishankar and Ishaq Dal, in addition to discussing the situation with Pakistan’s Army Chief, Asim Munier. The U.S. is ramping up its efforts to ease tensions, with Rubio calling for the re-establishment of direct communication between India and Pakistan, a point highlighted in a recent statement from the State Department.
Rubio has emphasized the importance of avoiding misunderstandings between the two countries. He reiterated that both sides need to take a step back and find ways to open lines of direct communication.
Previously, on Friday, Rubio expressed similar sentiments during talks with Jaishankar and General Asim Munier. Jaishankar later mentioned that his approach is always measured and responsible.
The situation remains tense, particularly after India conducted a retaliatory strike following a Pakistani attack on multiple locations within India. Reports indicate that intermittent fire continues along the Line of Control (LOC).
In a rapid response, Indian forces struck at least four Pakistani airbases. Additionally, Wing Commander Vyomika Singh provided an update during a press conference in New Delhi, noting that Pakistani forces have made troop movements that suggest offensive intentions.
Singh stated that while India has effectively countered hostilities with proportional responses, there’s a commitment to de-escalation, contingent upon Pakistan’s actions as well. He highlighted that Indian forces remain on high alert and have executed precision strikes against clearly identified military targets amidst misinformation campaigns from Pakistan regarding India’s defense capabilities.
