Tense Incident in Worcester Involves ICE and Local Residents
A dramatic video from Massachusetts depicts what police are calling a “confusing incident” involving around 25 people. The footage, captured on Thursday in Worcester, shows a crowd chanting phrases like “Don’t take your mother!” and “No warrant!” as uniformed ICE and U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents led a woman into an SUV. Other women protested by placing their hands on the front of the vehicle as it attempted to drive away.
During the chaos, CBP agents and bystanders began to push one another while trying to manage the situation. The Worcester Police Department arrived later, labeling the gathering an illegal rally and threatening arrests. Eventually, the SUV drove off.
A local resident expressed her discontent over the incident, especially given that Mother’s Day is approaching. She mentioned feeling devastated by the idea of family separations, as the community prides itself on being welcoming.
The fear of family separation was palpable in the crowd. The resident stated she had requested a full report on the incident from the mayor, emphasizing the lack of communication from ICE regarding their presence.
The Worcester Police indicated they received a call around 11:13 a.m. about a federal agent surrounded by a large crowd. They also noted reports of ICE officers refusing to present warrants to those present. Upon arriving, officers described a chaotic scene with multiple federal agents trying to detain women.
As the SUV attempted to leave, a young woman stood in front of the vehicle holding her newborn. Officers claimed that this posed a danger to the child, which ultimately led to her being taken into custody following a brief altercation.
This woman now faces charges related to reckless endangerment, disturbing the peace, and resisting arrest, while the infant was unharmed. Another individual, identified as Ashley Spring, 38, allegedly pushed officers and threw unknown liquids at them during the fracas.
She, too, was arrested on multiple charges, including assault against a police officer and disorderly conduct. The Worcester Police announced that this ongoing investigation might lead to additional charges in the future.
