Several Democratic lawmakers face arrest after entering ICE facility and confronting a female officer.

The Trump administration has indicated that more arrests could be forthcoming for several Democrats involved in protests at Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention centers on Friday.

The demonstrations occurred in Newark, New Jersey, leading to the arrest of Mayor Ras Baraka, who was described as “convicted of trespass” after allegedly ignoring multiple warnings from Homeland Security officials while at the ICE facility, according to U.S. attorney Alina Haba.

“He chose to disregard the law. This is not permissible in our state. He’s in custody now, and no one can evade the law,” she stated.

Baraka was joined by Democrats Bonnie Watson Coleman, Rob Menendez, and Ramonica McQuiber during the protests.

Tricia McLaughlin, a spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), noted that Baraka’s involvement might reflect tensions regarding female ICE officers. “There will likely be further arrests. We have body camera footage showing Congress members engaging with ICE officers, including confrontations involving female officers. This will be available for viewers soon,” she said.

In a recent joint interview on CNN, three lawmakers expressed their concerns over the incidents involving DHS and ICE personnel.

“The situation escalated when ICE officials present at the facility were instructed to leave the area and detain the mayor of New Jersey’s largest city,” Coleman remarked.

She continued, “This is absurd and un-American. It’s a real concern about the safety of our citizens.” Another lawmaker added that DHS has repeatedly allowed ICE to intensify situations unnecessarily, which is quite alarming for the public.

In response to accusations of physical aggression, McQuiber defended herself, asserting there is no evidence to support such claims. “Honestly, I can’t fathom how one could push someone to that extent without any footage,” she stated.

Despite their denials, the DHS has released clips that frame congressional Democrats as confrontational, appearing to push against ICE agents at the gates.

The investigation remains ongoing, and no specific claims or charges against individuals have been finalized yet.
