Larry Strickland confirms that Naomi Judd aimed a gun at him

A documentary titled “Judd Family: Truth Be Told” has shed light on the complicated relationship between Naomi Judd and her husband, Larry Strickland. Strickland revealed that Naomi shot herself after discovering his infidelity, a tragic incident that unfolded before her death in 2022. The couple was married for 33 years, primarily sharing a life entwined with music, yet it was punctuated by struggles and dysfunction.

In the documentary, which includes clips from her 1993 memoir “Love Can Build Bridges,” Naomi spoke candidly about her challenging moments, recalling how she felt when confronted with her husband’s betrayal. Strickland acknowledged the painful reality of their situation, stating simply, “Well, it really happened.” Naomi’s grief was palpable; she shared that she even destroyed their photos and discarded Strickland’s belongings in a fit of despair.

Naomi died just a day before she was scheduled to be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame, something that weighed heavily on her family. Ashley Judd, Naomi’s daughter, described the precarious state her mother was in leading to that fateful day, expressing her concern for Naomi’s vulnerability during her travels.

Ashley revealed during her appearance on “Good Morning America” that her mother died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, using this moment to advocate for open discussions about mental health. This openness was something she felt was crucial, especially in light of the tragic circumstances surrounding Naomi’s death.

The documentary captures not just Naomi’s struggles but also the complex relationships within the Judd family. Wynonna Judd, Naomi’s other daughter, underscored that their family dynamics were fraught with issues, including past traumas that informed their present. She expressed a mix of love and fear in her relationship with her mother, tying it to what she referred to as “intergenerational trauma.”

Both sisters shared insights into their shared history, discussing the challenges they faced as children, the impact of Naomi’s fame, and the emotional toll it took on their family. Wynonna poignantly noted that her mother’s struggles were enveloped in a “constellation of suffering” that ultimately contributed to her demise.

Strickland’s reflections also revealed his own insecurities, mentioning feelings of jealousy regarding Naomi’s success early in her career. His revelations, layered with regret and sorrow, added depth to the narrative of a family grappling with complex emotions in the wake of tragedy.
