“Somewhat Troubling”: Brit Hume Explains Why Qatar’s Gift Might Be More Dangerous Than Trump Understands

On Monday, Brit Hume pointed out on Fox News that Qatar’s donation of luxury aircraft to the U.S. government for President Donald Trump might carry more political implications than the administration realizes.

The president is set to receive a Boeing 747-8 jet from the Qatari royal family as a gift, intended for use by the Air Force before eventually being moved to a Presidential Library at the end of his second term. During his appearance on “Special Report with Brett Baier,” Hume expressed that Trump should carefully consider the political ramifications of such gifts.

“I think this is a bit of a problem. The gift of the plane is likely legal, as it’s intended for the U.S. rather than for Trump personally. Once he steps down, it will transition to his library,” Hume noted.

As Hume explained, the primary issue lies not with the gift itself but rather its origin.

“Considering Qatar’s controversial status, it’s not entirely clear this is a straightforward gift for him. While Qatar has acted as a U.S. mediator, it’s also associated with where Hamas operates, and where Middle Eastern terrorists secure funding,” Hume asserted.

This contradiction could negatively influence public perception, he suggested.

“Qatar plays all sides and is not genuinely aligned with the U.S., so I think we might find it inappropriate to accept such a gift from them,” he added.

White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt indicated to NBC News that the administration follows applicable laws regarding foreign gifts. Originally, there were plans to announce the gifts during Trump’s trip to Qatar, but White House officials later stated that the jets wouldn’t be officially presented during that visit.
