On Monday, Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) expressed his views on Fox News Channel’s Jesse Watters Primetime, stating that President Donald Trump should not accept a $400 million jet from Qatar.
He remarked, “Qatar has presented Trump with an offer that’s tough to turn down. Boeing failed to deliver the jet on schedule, leading to a $400 million replacement for the Air Force. Trump could use it throughout his remaining time in office. Democrats label this as a bribe, yet Pam Bondy suggests the jet will ultimately be returned to the Trump Force.”
Paul pointed out, “The Constitution, specifically Article 2, prohibits a president from receiving gifts or emoluments from foreign leaders. This provision means it shouldn’t occur. So, the question arises: can it be justified for official reasons?”
Continuing the discussion, Watters asked, “If Qatar offers him the jet and he suggests, ‘Rand, want to hop on this jet to Palm Beach?’ what would you do?”
Paul replied, “No. I think that’s a misstep. It’s something he simply doesn’t need.”
