David Hogg’s election as DNC vice chair has been canceled.

DNC Overrides Election of David Hogg as Vice-Chairman

The Democratic National Convention made a notable decision on Monday, voting to invalidate the election of David Hogg as vice-chairman. This action followed some internal critique of Hogg, though party officials assert that the vote is primarily a response to procedural issues raised back in February, suggesting that both Hogg and another official were inappropriately elected. A further vote regarding Hogg’s potential removal is scheduled for later this year.

In a statement following the vote, Hogg expressed that the DNC seems committed to his elimination, noting that this vote served as a means to accelerate that agenda.

The same vote also resulted in the expulsion of Pennsylvania Assemblyman Malcolm Kenyatta from his role as DNC vice-chairman. Christine Pelosi, who is part of the Qualification Committee and the daughter of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, contended that the votes were not reflective of the individuals’ actual performance.

Staying Neutral or Resigning

Pelosi specified that the decision regarding Hogg and Kenyatta was not a judgment on their service, but rather about procedural violations brought up by another candidate. She expressed hope that both could once again participate in future votes and maintained confidence in DNC members to make decisions in good faith.

Internal Conflicts and Strategies

The ongoing discussions regarding Hogg’s position emerge as he has announced a commitment to invest $20 million in supporting Democratic candidates in traditionally Democratic districts, aiming to pave the way for new leadership.

Recently, Hogg found himself at odds with seasoned Democratic strategist James Carville during a podcast. Carville critiqued Hogg’s approach as overly aggressive and suggested that it should focus more on defeating Republicans rather than voicing internal dissent. Hogg countered, asserting the need for a strategy that equally addresses both sides and emphasizes winning upcoming elections.

In that context, Hogg stated, “It’s not about winning the election in Queens where you don’t run against Republicans. It’s about helping Democrats win the election.”
