Bindi Irwin’s urgent surgery took an unexpected turn after her appendix burst.

Bindi Irwin is currently recovering from an unexpected surgery that caused her to miss the annual Steve Irwin Gala over the weekend. Just a few days after turning 26, she experienced signs of discomfort and pain, which led her to share the details of the procedure on social media.

“Hey everyone. It’s Bindi,” she said in an Instagram video shared on Monday.

“I had my appendix removed about an hour ago, along with 14 new endometriotic lesions, and they also repaired a hernia,” she explained. “I apologize if this video isn’t perfect, but I wanted to keep you in the loop as I move forward on my recovery journey.” In her post, she expressed gratitude towards her medical team and provided insights into the emergency surgery.

Bindi thanked Dr. Sekokin and Dr. Chu from Lennox Hill Hospital for their assistance. “After months of pain due to my appendix, I had to take care of it before Steve Irwingala’s Day. The surgery went smoothly, with my appendix and 14 lesions removed, in addition to fixing a large hernia I developed when I was four years old,” she continued.

“I’m grateful to be on the mend. Your kind messages and support mean the world to me,” she added. “I want to acknowledge Robert for hosting the evening and raising awareness for wildlife warriors. And thank you to Chandler and Grace—your love is everything to me.”

Meanwhile, her brother Robert Irwin noted that Bindi’s surgery stemmed from a ruptured appendix.

“She’s going to be okay, but this wasn’t something we anticipated,” Robert remarked at a Las Vegas event. “She had recently dealt with endometriosis, and now the appendix issue emerged. Health is crucial, and Bindi has become a strong advocate for women’s health.” He reflected on how Bindi managed to attend the gala even while experiencing considerable discomfort, stating, “Despite the pain, she was determined to be there.” However, the surgeon emphasized that her appendix needed to be removed for her well-being.

In 2023, Bindi had previously revealed her endometriosis diagnosis, which required surgery as well.

Reflecting on her journey, Bindi shared, “My life has changed drastically post-surgery. For a decade, I struggled with endometriosis without a proper diagnosis, and it worsened each week.” She described the pain as “stinging” and very frightening, illustrating the challenges she faced in seeking treatment.
