Many young leaders in the south side of Chicago come from challenging backgrounds, such as housing projects and single-parent homes. It’s a tough situation—they often rely on bureaucratic systems. This reliance on government can be a major struggle for these kids as they grow up.
To address this, I’m starting a unique summer camp initiative called “Securing a Bag: God’s Way – Small Investors, Big Future.” This program aims to shift the narrative of victimhood often seen in discussions about these communities, showing kids the American Dream and teaching them how to seek opportunities for themselves.
For some of these kids, living with government assistance feels normal, which is troubling. Many come from families where generations have depended on such support. A key part of our mission is to help them recognize that this isn’t the only way to live.
Lessons from Captain America and Me
While politicians in Chicago debate solutions, we’ll be teaching these young people about conservative values and how they can lift themselves out of poverty. Our lessons will center on hard work, personal responsibility, entrepreneurship, and faith-based stewardship.
At our camp, we will explain how relying on government assistance doesn’t lead to lasting freedom from poverty. Instead, it often keeps families trapped in a cycle of dependence.
We want these kids to understand that government aid isn’t a permanent solution to poverty. It tends to create an environment where ambition and aspiration are stifled. They need to reject the misleading promises of the radical left and embrace a life of independence and faith.
Sure, the idea of freedom can be intimidating. It shows us our flaws, but that’s part of the journey we want to embark on this summer. We aim to help them reflect on where they are now and foster the desire to improve—so they can eventually create and pursue opportunities with resilience and faith.
Additional Information
Take Tasha, for instance. She faced a tough upbringing; her father was killed, and her mother juggled multiple jobs to provide for her family. Tasha admires her mother’s strength and dreams of helping her family escape poverty.
She has aspirations, just like anyone else might in her situation, but she feels lost about how to achieve them. This camp is designed for kids like Tasha. We’ll help her discover her potential and remind her that she’s not defined by her tragic circumstances. Instead, we’ll guide her toward faith and independence.
Today, America finds itself at a critical juncture. We can either continue funding ineffective government programs that perpetuate poverty or invest in individuals like Tasha directly.
Support and Participation
I hope you’ll consider supporting our camp—whether through prayer or any assistance you’re inspired to offer. Together, we can change the culture of our country and promote values like faith, hard work, and education as legitimate pathways to opportunity.
Join us in our mission. Let’s secure a brighter future.
