I’m Uncertain About Whether James Bond Should Be Female

Halle Berry, the Oscar-winning actress known for her connection to the James Bond franchise, expressed uncertainty about whether the iconic character should be portrayed by a woman. This comment surfaced during her participation at the Cannes Film Festival in France on Tuesday.

“I don’t know if 007 should really be a woman. Sure, I might agree in 2025 that it should happen, but I’m honestly not sure it’s the right approach,” Berry remarked. This came in response to a question from a reporter about her openness to taking on the role of James Bond.

“And no, I don’t think there’s going to be a Jinx spinoff,” she added. Berry reflected that while it might have been a possibility, it seems, at this point, it may be too late for that idea.

She also discussed the prospect of revisiting the character Jinx from her role in Die Another Day.

Conversations shifted towards President Donald Trump, with reporters inquiring about his recent remarks regarding a proposed tariff on films made outside the United States. Juliet Binoche, the president of the European Academy of Film, responded, “You know he’s trying to save America and protect his own interests.”

Earlier this month, President Trump announced plans for 100% tariffs on foreign-produced films, claiming that the U.S. film industry is “dying.” In his statement, he mentioned that other nations are offering various incentives to filmmakers, which he believes is detrimental to American studios. He plans to authorize the Commerce Department and trade representatives to initiate the process for implementing these tariffs.

The Cannes Film Festival commenced on Tuesday and will continue until May 24th.
