JT Miller Competes in US Open Qualifying
JT Miller held his own but ultimately fell short in his quest to qualify for the 2025 US Open during a qualifying event in Pennsylvania on Tuesday.
The Rangers player finished with a score of 4-over 76 at Quicksilver Golf Club, located near Pittsburgh. He participated in the playoffs but missed qualifying by four shots.
Miller, speaking on 93.7, mentioned he has taken part in three qualifying events in the past, and joked that on the first green, it felt like “Nerve” couldn’t handle his putter.
“Today, I couldn’t even hold the putter on the first green,” he shared with NHL.com. “I told myself, it wouldn’t be like that, but honestly, the first few swings can feel exactly that way.”
He started the round with a bogey on the first hole after needing three putts but managed to shoot par on the next six holes.
Miller didn’t seem overly ambitious about his golf game heading into the event. “I had the chance to play for a day,” he reflected. “I know who I’m up against. I’m a competitive person, but I kept my expectations in check. I’m happy with how I played.”
After being traded back to the Rangers in January, Miller hails from East Palestine, Ohio, which is quite a distance from both Quicksilver Golf Club and Oakmont Country Club, where the 2025 US Open will be held.
This isn’t his first attempt at qualifying; in 2023, he tried at Nevillewood Country Club near Pittsburgh.
Discussing the differences between golf and hockey, Miller noted on 93.7, “In golf, I feel a bit isolated. I respect the game so much. In hockey, there’s always a team. It’s such a collaborative sport.”
